First things first, major MAJOR kudos for a set of characters where the work environment is healthy and supportive, especially for the female protagonistin a male-dominated workforce. It's so refreshing. I am really thankful for the male colleague who called out the protagonist when she started getting overwhelmed by sentimentalism and the beginnings of a saviour complex and helped her balance her mindset. I laughed a lot during this book, which was surprising. The well-placed comedy broke the tension of what is a very serious narrative. The mystery itself was well executed and worked well with the knowledge that the late-Victorian era is when so much of our modern understanding of fictional and non-fictional murders/criminology really took off.
