It is home to numerous academics, medical professionals, and students, and it is situated adjacent to McMaster Hospital and the main campus.On a calm Dundas street, it was just after 3:30 in the morning when Karen Monk heard someone knock on her front door. Karen got up and went to the front of the home, where she saw a startling image. The man was badly burned on her doorstep.He looked almost completely different. The man was Karen's husband, Alan Rutherford. It took the longtime neighbor saying her name out loud for her to understand it was Alan. The 63-year-old had somehow fled, and smoke billowed down the street from the residence.In their pajamas, neighbors hurried from their houses to witness the entire scene. There were 911 calls made. It just took six minutes for police and firefighters to arrive on the welcoming court for three out of the four families and family members.Emergency medical services rushed Al Rutherford, to the hospital. He claimed that Carla, his wife, was still inside the flaming home. He had failed to keep her alive. The police were unable to enter the house.The fire was becoming too strong.
