This is another worthwhile book from Lee. She has a way of clearly yet gently presenting the big issues, filling in withher own personal experiences. I think this book would be wonderful for a brand new homeschooler to read before theymake any curriculum choices. The book demystifies homeschool curriculum in general and offers a wide sample ofwhat's out there to pick from. Please remember that you should check with your own state's rules and laws because homeschooling rules, laws and expectations do vary by state. Once you understand your own state's legal expectations you will know whatis actually required of you. This makes it easier to make decisions based upon your own children, their goals in life, their college goals, and your own style as a homeschooling parent. Remember different children have different learningstyles, interests, personalities, and needs. You may not actually need to purchase an entire curriculum. Some people like to try one out and see how it works for a year or so. In my state, we did not need a curriculum. We used library books, onlinebooks, and checked what the curriculum was at various local public and private high schools. In the end we ended up using acomputer based curriculum which covered all the basics, and just added to it by interest. My son did not want me to teach him; he wanted to learn on his own. Anything educational can be used as part of a curriculum. It depends upon how much structure your child wants and needs. You will need confidence that you are covering what you feel, or what your state requires, shouldbe covered. Using a pre packaged curriculum is easier for a busy homeschooling parent. Just make sure your child islearning. This book will present you with the overview of the subject in a fast, organized manner.
