This set was a gift to a best friend, after he read the first book and loved it. I lived in Africa for twenty-six years and these books bring back so many memories. The stories are absolutely delightful and I am familiar with an area about fifteen miles from where they take place. Each book is self-contained and the author brings you up to date in each book on what you need to know from the previous books. The stories are simple, naïve, colorful and well-written and each book is a new and enticing adventure. The African wit and wisdom are to be savored.A friend had recommended this series to me, and I enjoyed the first five books completely. It is interesting to learn a little about Africa and the old Batswana ways. The characters are developed well by the author, and they continue to grow in the books following. I got to know all of the main characters very well. The stories are interesting, and sometimes funny. I enjoyed these first five books very much, and am looking forward to reading the remaining books in the series.I highly recommend these books. They are so comfortable and easy on the eyes. Knowing very little about Africa and nothing about Botswana, I got wind of the books from the HBO series about them. I was hooked in no time!The main character, a rotund woman, is very secure in who she is and in her folksy, intelligent way, handles many cases from a lost child to a poisoning. I'm on the third book at this point, and find them enchanting!The HBO series is fairly true to the story so I am trying to stay one book ahead of the series.This is a lovely series of books and I find myself identifying with the main character. I look forward to reading more of them!I started watching this series on HBO and loved the common sense approach of the owner of this unique business, information about the country, etc. I decided to buy the first set of this series as I have discovered that if I love the HBO series, usually the books are even better such as the Sookie Stackhouse series. I was right!I loved the books and cannot wait to finish them and order the rest of the books. They are well written, very enjoyable, and have an interesting, unique perspective on how to help persons with their problems!Lovely set of books however they were a little marked on the edges.
