Jorn Lier Horst writes with the same voice as his memorable character, William Wisting - with precision and intelligence. Horst is a true master of narrative and dialogue and writes in a style that is easy to read and thoroughly enjoyable, page after page.We've become used to the 'defective detective' trope in Scandinavian Noir, but Horst bucks that trend and delivers us a complex and likable protagonist who has a believable relationship with his family rather than the dysfunctional relationship we've come to expect.Ordeal is an awesome and credible piece of work from one of the best crime procedural authors to emerge from the land of the midnight sun.
