I love these. Took some sweaty walks to help break in the tight arch and toe crease but they are now wonderful. It seems they have also solved the disintegrating sole issue that plagued Blunnie users years ago. They are tough and wipe down easy. With the occasional leather treatment application they look wonderful even after some abuse.Update, 07-12-22: While I stand by my initial review of my Blundstone 500s, I want to add that at this time the molded foam midsoles are desintegrating. This happened to my Vasque hiking boots, too; but it took over 30 years! Anyway, I just fished my Blundstones out of the closet, and a large chunk has fallen out the front of one boot, and the sole is peeling off, and both midsoles feel friable, meaning decomposition will only go faster from here. Otherwise, the boots are in great shape, as would be expected, as they got little wear over the 3 years it took for the midsole to break down. Caveat emptor.Original review:It took me 3 tries to get the right size Blundstone 500s, and I recommend doing some research before purchasing these boots. The size basics are these: The Australian whole size Blundstone is an American E width and a full size longer than an American size boot. The half size up is literally no longer or wider but is is "roomier" inside than the whole size under it. I wear a 10 E American boot, and the Australian size 9 Blundstones fit me well enough that I kept them. My feet simply swim in the 9 1/2., despite it is - literally - exactly the same length and width as the 9. As for quality, these boots are not like Limmers or Whites but they are well made by today's standards for mass produced boots. The leather is not at all soft, rather it has a firm hand, like a good work boot, and it takes a while to break them in. The insole is nothing special, and the heal counter is stiff. The mid-sole gives some support, not a lot. The sole is medium soft. Overall, the 500 offers more support than my Clark's Desert Boots and less than typical work boots I've opted for over the years. I would not use them for construction work involving extension ladders or shovels, but they are fine for uneven terrain and doing chores. I wear them daily as a construction superintendent. For this they are more comfortable than my Red Wing 952s, yet another American made boot that's not what it once was.Always wanted a pair of 500 . So Glad I finally did. IMO, they Are better then 550, 585 or any other version of the classic. The 500 are not leather lined on the inside. Which makes them summer friendly and less snuggly. As to sizing - I am W8, EU 38-39. Ordered W8 - M6. PERFECT FIT. #5 on blundi sole.I've been wanting a pair of "Blunnies" for a while. I decided to go for the model 500 in black. I've owned boots from Vasque, Ariat, Chippewa, Timberland, etc. Blundstone's quality is similar to any of them. The urethane outsoles are fairly lightweight, and the steel shank adds support. The fit out of the box was roomy for my medium-volume 12D feet. I removed the stock insoles and replaced them with high-profile Superfeet. Much better. I wore them around the house for a few days and they seemed to mold themselves to fit my feet. I wore them all day for the first time today, and they were great. No discomfort, no hot spots. I think I'll be enjoying them for many years.I love the look of these rugged boots but found the sizing to be very difficult to establish with the Blundstone boots. Especially if you are a half size, I’m a 9.5. I ordered the Aussie size of 6.5 Which is equivalent to a 9.5 U.S. women’s and 7.5 in U.S. men’s. The 9.5’s were to tight in the toe and rubbed my heel, but the width seemed fine (my feet are narrow). Being that they are leather, I tried for a week or two to walk around town in them but ouch! I thought I’d better return and give a size 10 a try. Size 10 came and my feet were swimming side strokes in them every time I took a step! I sent them back but still didn’t give up on what I wanted. I decided to do more research and found out (and personally experienced) that Australian Blundstone boots half sizing are really only a “half size” wider, not longer, obviously different than what the shoe makers do for us here in the U.S. Sizing is “unisex” which is close to UK men’s sizing it, can be extremely confusing if your an American... But everything and everyone says they swear they stretch and last forever! So now, after all this I have purchased the Blundstone 550’s women’s 9.5 and put shoe stretchers in to help in the process. I haven’t worn them enough (due to COVID) to say they’ve stretched enough yet. But I am hopeful. Hope this was hopeful. :)As a prediabetic old salt with bunions and foot aches galore I can say this shoe isolates and supports my feet, ankles, and keeps every foot component from rotation. I can walk 8- 9 miles with no problems with these shoes. They are lightweight and strong. They are supple. These shoes are easy to ensconce the feet as well as disengage from the shoes. These boots are great for moderate weather. Not suitable for colder weather without layering socks. Either way, worth the money!I've been wearing these religiously for a few months now. I had the 550s, which are leather lined and they were just too tight on my high instep (the top of my foot is very high). I tried stretching them and everything, but nothing worked. I loved the Blundstone boot and how comfortable the sole was and how light they were.... so I bought these 500s hoping without the leather lining they'd give JUST a bit more room inside...and they do. Not much, but they don't press down on my instep like the 550s. I've put months on them and they're great. All day comfort. The soft rubber soles are very quiet... like you can sneak up on your wife in the kitchen and scare the crap out of her.It would be nice if they were still made in Australia and not outsourced, but in this day and age for $180 you get outsourced boots. Quality seems high, though, and I plan on wearing these for years to come.I like the look of these boots. I'm normally a 10.5 but having read that half sizes only make these boots wider not longer I took a punt and got the 10. It turns out the boot fits perfectly length ways but they are too tight on the top of my foot. The boots seem good quality and so I think if I tried to break them in I'd be in danger of breaking my feet instead of the boot! Seller accepted my return no problem, I will try the 10.5.These are replacements for a similar pair I had had for years, which finally wore out. Initial impressions favourable - they look and feel like the old ones. These fit well and are very comfortable, with a grippy sole and good support. It they last as long as the previous pair, I shall be very pleased with them. Not the most elegant footwear, but rugged and practical. Can't comment on the durability, as just got them. However they seem just as good as the pair I bought 26 years ago in Australia, which are still going strong, other than the elastic on the sides is shot, but still good for doing the gardening in. I went for a walk in the new ones today and they were great. They look good and very please with the price which has dropped dramatically and was the reason I bought them, although it has since dropped again since then. Still glad I bought them though! This is my second pair of Blundstone boots this year. They are without doubt the most comfortable, most waterproof boots I have ever owned. I have a very active job walking 10-15km per day on everything from tarmac to muddy turf outdoors for several hours at a time in some very extreme weather conditions without suffering any discomfort or water ingress. I normally take a UK 9 and ordered a 9 which fit perfectly. I usually get through a pair of walking boots every year but I have a feeling I'll have these for longer than a yearFairly quick delivery based on the fact I was ordering to ROI in January just after Brexit when everything was all over the place with deliveries and customs. Haven’t had the boots that long but so far - arrived as expected, love the style and the boot itself, I got them in a size 5 as a friend told me to size down, but all of my boots would be a 5 anyway although I would have some trainers etc in a 6, I haven’t fully broken them in yet and when I first got them I went for a big walk in them and got the WORST most painful blister and couldn’t wear them for ages. Stupid on my part! So wearing them around the house now and short trips trying to break them in. Going to source the in-soles also. So bear that in mind when purchasing. Unless that’s just me! Bought for dog walking and think they’ll be perfect when I break them in.
